Babes & Buds

Babes & Buds is a structured, introductory gymnastics class for children ages 2 through 3 years. In this class the students, accompanied by an adult, get to explore the gym and learn how to navigate their toddler bodies. This movement education class teaches skills in a fun and safe space that will prepare your adventure-seeking tot for any playground in the city.

Class Overview

The first 10 minutes of class is the child’s time to explore the gym, come up with their own ideas, and interact with their peers. This time is for the adults to not only assist the children in their efforts, but also take a step back and observe what ideas the kiddos come up with.

After exploration time the class comes together for circle time. Circle time includes a 10-minute, age-appropriate routine warm-up and stretch. The following 15 minutes consist of structured movement education through obstacle courses &/or stations. In these courses & stations the children are introduced to age-appropriate gymnastics skills in a fun and safe way. The adults are instructed in suitable spotting techniques to safely assist the children through these new skills.

The last 10 minutes of class include a structured ending activity, a good-bye song, and a “celebration station” to acknowledge the children’s hard work.

Classes are not offered during the summer but will return this fall!

Long hair should be pulled back in a ponytail. All jewelry should be taken off before class. You may bring a water bottle and snack. All food and drinks must remain in the viewing area.

Trial Class/Drop-In Classes

Join us for a trial class or drop-in class between sessions or during a session if there is class availability! A trial class allows your family to check out our classes with no obligation to continue should you find it’s not a good fit. Drop-in classes are for those who can’t commit to the whole session but know they love class and would like to join from time-to-time. The fee for a trial class or drop-in class is the cost of 1-class, $24. All trial classes & drop-in classes must be scheduled in advance to ensure there is an available spot. Enroll your child in the class of your choice and click the box, “Trial Class” near the bottom of the enrollment page. In the comments section, please include the date that you’d like your child to join class.

Siblings

Our sibling discount and multiple-class discount is 20% off for each additional sibling or class.

Due to Covid-19, our observation area is limited to only one adult per family. At this time, non-participating siblings will be permitted to stay to observe class if they can stick to your seating area. If they must move about, we would ask you to leave and return at the end of class. If you are a parent in a Babes & Buds class with an infant sibling, you may either wear this child in a body carrier or secure the child in a safe space on the side of the gym.

Make-Up Classes

We are unable to prorate for planned absences. If your child misses a class, they can make it up in another available class that is not sold out or in another class that has a student with a planned absence. With that being said, if you know of a future absence, please inform us as soon as possible so we can offer your spot as a make-up class for another family on that date.

If Edgewater Playhouse must cancel class and cannot offer a class make-up date, you will be given the choice of a credit to your account or a refund for the number of canceled classes.
