Our Owner

Jessica Skipitaris grew up as a competitive gymnast and retired at age 16 as a Level 9 gymnast in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. After a two-year break, she started coaching gymnastics and has continued her coaching career to this day. Jessica has experience coaching children of all ages from 18 months to 18 years, but her passion has always been early-childhood gymnastics.

Jessica moved to Chicago in 2000 and was fortunate to have been offered a gymnastics coaching position with the Chicago Park District. After 16 wonderful years with the park district, she decided it was time to pursue a dream that she’d had since she was 12 years old – to own her own gym.

After a decade of living and working in Edgewater, it was an easy decision to choose Edgewater as the home for her new business. It has been 5 unforgettable years since the Grand Opening of Edgewater Playhouse! Jessica is grateful for these years as she has had the opportunity to meet, work with, and gain friendships with so many families during such trying times. She knows her dream could not have happened without the support of the community and is forever thankful.

Our Staff

Latoya Thorn, Studio Assistant

Latoya is a Michigan native who moved to Chicago to pursue her career in photography. For the past 16 years, Latoya has been building her business, Latoya Thorn Photography, with experience in headshots and family photography. After becoming a parent, Latoya blended her business with her hobby of capturing her daughter in action. When her daughter was just three years old, she took an interest in the sport of gymnastics and grew to become a competitive gymnast, bringing Latoya along for the ride.

It was through competitive gymnastics that Latoya met Jessica who, at the time, was planning the opening of Edgewater Playhouse. During her daughter’s gymnastics career, Latoya learned to love the sport herself and has taken the opportunity to learn the many sides of the sport through her time volunteering as a parent club representative, choreographing floor routines, assisting in class management, and of course capturing the sport on film. When Latoya learned that Edgewater Playhouse was opening, she knew that she wanted to be right by Jessica’s side to get the studio up and running. Every day brings Latoya back to the time when her daughter was just three years old trying gymnastics for the first time. She enjoys seeing the joy the sport brings to others’ children and looks forward to seeing where their experience at Edgewater Playhouse will take them.
